More of the requests coming through now are for a natural looking smile. One that works with the teeth someone already has, rather than covering or replacing them.

For many of those cases, the answer is Invisalign and in-office whitening.
It helps to understand how that differs from veneers.

A veneer covers the tooth. A thin layer of tooth 0.5-1mm of enamel is removed first, then ceramic veneer is cemented over it. It is permanent, and it is the additive choice where a tooth is worn, fractured, or structurally compromised.

An aligner moves the tooth you already have. Nothing is removed, and nothing is covered. It corrects position over a set number of months, and whitening refines and enhances the shade afterward.

Veneers are often the faster change. Aligners are the more conservative one, and the tooth stays entirely your own.

More than a decade in, and the part I look forward to most is the entire patient journey. Someone telling me what they have been living with, the planning together to rebuild it properly, and the smiles I see after the treatment is complete.

Most artists are handed a canvas. Mine walks through my door, sits down, and tells me about their life.

That changes how I work. A canvas stays on a wall. The person in my chair walks back out into meetings, photoshoots, and dinners with the people that know them closely, and they carry what we built together into all of it.

Last Friday we completed the second stage of this implant case, placing two Straumann implants in the lower left jaw.

This appointment presented its own clinical challenges. Due to the patient being very petite and limited mouth opening, as well as over-erupted opposing teeth, making access to the surgical site challenging.Without going into patient-specific detail, intraoperative findings required us to adapt our approach in real time. This is the nature of surgical dentistry at this level. No two cases are identical, and the ability to respond with precision and composure is what separates proposed planned outcomes with predictable and accurate ones.

Modern digital dentistry doesn’t eliminate complexity. It equips you with the tools to meet it. Both implants are placed. The foundation is set.
