What are these white bumps on my face?

A milium (plural: milia) is a tiny, harmless, white or yellowish cyst that forms just under the surface of the skin. People often mistakenly call it a "Millian cyst."

What is Milia:
Small, usually 1–2 mm in size.
Filled with keratin (a protein found in skin, hair, and nails), not pus.
Most commonly found around the eyes, eyelids, cheeks, nose, and forehead.
Usually painless and non-infectious.

What causes milia?
They can develop when dead skin cells become trapped beneath the skin. They may also occur:
Naturally, without a clear cause.

After skin injury, burns, or blisters.
Following certain cosmetic procedures.
From using very heavy creams that may contribute to trapped skin cells in some people.

Can you remove them?
Yes, but you shouldn't try to squeeze them like a pimple because they don't have an opening to the skin surface.

Options include:
They may disappear on their own over weeks or months.

Gentle exfoliation or topical retinoids (if appropriate) may help prevent new ones.
A dermatologist or trained aesthetic practitioner can safely remove them using a sterile needle or tiny incision.

If the bump becomes red, painful, grows quickly, or you're unsure it's a milium, it's a good idea to have it checked by a healthcare professional.
