A Message to Nail Techs About AI, Training & Professionalism 🚨

Can we have an honest conversation about AI in the nail industry?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with enhancing a photo, adjusting lighting, or improving image quality. However, when AI is used to completely alter nail work to the point where it no longer reflects reality, we start creating unrealistic expectations for clients.

Clients deserve to see what your work actually looks like. When the photos they see online are dramatically different from what they receive in the salon, disappointment is inevitable. Many experienced nail techs can immediately tell when an image has been heavily altered because we've seen the real work behind the edited photos.

The truth is, AI can improve an image, but it cannot improve your skills.

Only proper education, practice, experience, and professional training can do that. The difference between a trained professional and someone relying on filters and AI is visible in the quality of their work.

For those who don't want to invest in themselves, please don't blame the industry, the economy, or other nail techs for a lack of growth. Nobody can learn for you, and nobody is obligated to hand out information that they've invested years and thousands of rands to acquire.

I genuinely want to see everyone succeed. I want to see more talented nail techs, more thriving businesses, and a stronger industry. But success doesn't come from shortcuts.

Invest in proper education. Invest in quality training. Not every R2,000 course will turn someone into a professional overnight. Real success requires commitment, continuous learning, practice and a willingness to improve.

Think about it this way: you wouldn't trust a doctor offering a heart transplant for R500. It raises questions about quality, training, and professionalism. The same principle applies to our industry.

When we drastically undercharge, rely on fake AI images, or refuse to invest in education, we're sending the wrong message about the value of our profession.

Let's work together to keep this industry professional.

Stop racing to the bottom with pricing just to attract cheap clients. The clients who only shop based on price are rarely the clients who help grow a sustainable business.
