The basis of Somatoemational release was born out of the pioneering work of John Upledger (Doctor in Osteopathy) at Michigan State University. He led a team of anatomists, physiologists, biophysicists and bioengineers to test and document the influence of therapy on the craniosacral system. They evaluated and treated malfunctions involving the brain and spinal cord. If an emotional release is necessary for the body to fully discharge the trauma, memories carrying emotions will come into the patient's mind. The therapist guides the patient through the encounter, allowing the body to release and to return to optimal function.
