If you want better retention, cleaner application, and longer lasting sets, it all starts before you even pick up your product.

Here are 5 key steps every nail tech should master:

1️⃣ Lift before you remove.
The invisible cuticle attached to the nail plate is often the real cause of lifting. Take the time to gently lift it before reaching for your e-file.

2️⃣ Prep the entire nail plate.
Don’t just focus on the cuticle area. Make sure you’ve removed the shine and thoroughly cleaned the entire nail plate so your product has the best surface to adhere to.

3️⃣ Use a light touch.
A gentle approach helps prevent over-filing and protects the natural nail.

4️⃣ Only remove what’s no longer attached.
The goal isn’t to remove as much skin as possible. Healthy skin is there to protect the nail—focus only on dead tissue attached to the nail plate.

5️⃣ Finish with a perfectly clean nail plate.
Even the best prep can fail if dust is left behind. Remove every trace of debris before applying your dehydrator, primer, or base product.
