Want ons is GATVOL !
This weekend the Gatvol Legends are pointing the noses of the cars towards one of South Africa’s greatest roads — Prince Alfred’s Pass! 🇿🇦
We’re heading through the mountains, forests and gravel roads to the little historic hamlet of De Vlugt — a place where the past is still very much alive.
And speaking of legends… Thomas Bain’s original cottage is still standing in De Vlugt!
Bain and his team built the Prince Alfred’s Pass in the 1860s, using around 270 convict labourers, working by hand through some seriously challenging mountain terrain. Construction began around 1860/63 and the pass was completed in 1867, with the official opening following in 1868.
A few cool facts:
🔸 At approximately 68.5 km, Prince Alfred’s Pass is reputed to be the longest publicly accessible mountain pass in South Africa.
🔸 It climbs to around 1,040 metres above sea level.
🔸 The road is still largely a gravel road and follows much of the original route.
🔸 De Vlugt started out as a construction camp for the men building the pass.
🔸 Thomas Bain and his family actually lived there while he supervised the construction — and his little cottage is still there today.
🔸 The pass was named after Prince Alfred, Queen Victoria’s son, who visited South Africa in 1860.
So this weekend it's not just about getting from A to B…
It's about old cars, gravel roads, mountain passes, history, lekker views and good mates. 😎🏁

The Gatvol Legends Ferrari LaFerrari. Carbon fibre. Hundreds of horsepower. Turns heads wherever it goes. 😎
Option 2:
The Gatvol Mercedes with more stories than a retirement village, enough chrome to blind a small nation, and a driver's seat moulded perfectly to decades of adventure. 😏
The Ferrari arrived fully kitted out and rally-ready, trying its absolute best to impress everyone.
The old Mercedes didn't say a word.
She didn't have to.
Because when the keys are picked up tomorrow morning, the Ferrari will stay behind and the old girl gets the nod.
Sometimes the fastest car isn't the one you want to drive.
Sometimes the best breakfast run is all about character, memories, and arriving with a smile on your face.
Sorry Ferrari... maybe next time. 😂

The old girl is awake... 😈🚗
Parked up in the garage tonight, glowing red-eyed and looking like she's plotting something questionable for tomorrow's breakfast run.
Some cars dream of retirement. The Gatvol Legends Mercedes dreams of open roads, good coffee, and embarrassing modern cars that cost ten times as much.
Tomorrow morning she rolls out once again, carrying decades of stories, questionable fuel economy, and enough character to fill an entire parking lot.
Breakfast rally, we're coming for you. ☕🏁
