**When Our Celebrations Look Different**

A recent conversation reminded me that another person’s joy can sometimes touch the very place where our own hearts are quietly hurting.

We may genuinely want to celebrate with others, yet still feel the ache of an unanswered prayer, a missed milestone or something we deeply long for. That pain deserves tenderness—but it does not mean that someone else must hide their joy.

I have learned that not everyone’s celebrations look the same. Sometimes the victory is not a certificate, wedding or promotion. Sometimes it is asking for help, choosing recovery, surviving a difficult season or simply taking one brave step forward.

We need sensitivity in both directions: compassion for those who are grieving and grace to celebrate with those who are rejoicing.

Perhaps we can make room for both—their joy and our sorrow—trusting that God is present in every unfinished story.

Over the years, I’ve been part of many meaningful conversations in my salon. We talk about life, relationships, faith and the things that shape us.

A thought from one of today’s conversations:

Scripture does acknowledges men and women as distinct, yet it holds everyone to the same spiritual standard. Understanding our differences can help us extend patience and grace—but those differences should never be used to excuse disrespectful, controlling or harmful behaviour.

The fruit of the Spirit is not gender-specific. God calls both men and women to Christlike character:

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.”
— Galatians 5:22–23

Gender may explain some of our differences, but Christlike character remains the standard for us all.
