Meet Ayakha Ntunja, a 21 year old South African actress born in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape, who has become one of Mzansi’s most watched young talents. After moving to Johannesburg at age six, she discovered her love of storytelling through dance, poetry and theatre, eventually matriculating from the National School of the Arts in 2021. Her big break came in 2023 with a role as Thembi in MTV Shuga: Down South, but it was her first lead role in Youngins as Amo Mosweu that really cemented her rising star status. Since then, she’s taken on diverse roles in shows like Inimba and is starring in the feature film Loved Out, showing not just talent, but ambition. Despite her success, Ayakha remains grounded, viewing each role as a chance to learn and hoping her work will resonate especially with young people who see themselves in her stories.
