Childhood trauma is the emotional, psychological, or physical impact that results from experiences in childhood that overwhelm a child’s ability to feel safe, supported, and understood.
A child depends on adults for safety, love, and guidance. When those needs are repeatedly unmet—or violated—the nervous system adapts in order to survive. That adaptation is what we later experience as trauma.
Trauma is not only about what happened, but also about:
*What didn’t happen
*What the child felt alone carrying
*What the child couldn’t process or express
