INKOSANA: LAMENT FOR THE DEAD PRINCE
ENTRY EIGHT
KING MAKHOSONKE
The king had no choice but to agree when his Mother told him that Nonto's cousin will be brought in for him to try and impregnate.
His mother had told him that if he doesn't have a son by the end of the following year then he would be removed from the throne and the reigns will be given to another family.
its a well known Tradition in Enqebeni that a chosen king cannot rule more than seven years without an heir. if such case happens then that said king will be removed and the reigns would be given to his brother if he has one, and if there is no other male member in the family to take over then the reigns would be given to another family.
And MaTlou would be dead first before she allows that to happen. royality was in her blood and she wouldn't wanna loose such status and become a commoner just like everyone else in the kingdom.
so that's The reason she would do anything to make sure that Makhosonke gets an heir.
She knew that her son was fertile. two years back the family doctor had confirmed that Makhosonke was healthy and was able to make children.
So the reason for this childlessness was a mystery that MaTlou thought had everything to do with Lamaseko and her withcraft.
" so Mah how sure are that this girl you are bringing is gonna bear me a child" the king asked, he was pacing around his mother's chamber.
" well for starters she already has a child, a son, so we know that she is fertile.
So its likely that she would get pregnant. and besides that witch doesn't know about her yet so she wont do anything to block her" she said. she was already in her bed with a novel in her hand.
" if am gonna sleep with her then would the father of her son agree to that" he asked.
" well the father is no longer in the picture.
besides its not like you are marrying the girl, son. you will just plant your seed in her and then
after she gives birth she will sign all her rights of that Baby to nontobeko. so nontobeko will lawfully be the mother of that baby." she said.
" seems like you thought all of this through" he remarked.
" that's because we have, i told you that i will make sure you have an heir before next year. and that's exactly what am gonna do" she said.
" so, when am i meeting with her. does she even know about this" he came into a halt.
" relax Nonto is getting that sorted, so before this week ends she would be in your chambers. just be prepared"
" i will be ready".
" good then....you may leave, i need to rest."
" goodnight mother" he walked over and kissed her forehead.
" night son" MaTlou said before he exited.

The king exited his mother's chambers, he was headed in his room and was about to walk by Lamaseko's room when he came into an abrupt halt.
He debated if whether he should enter her chambers or just walk by.
it was no lie that the king has been missing Khanyisile this past few months.
He loved and enjoyed being with Nonto but its clear that when it came into intimacy Nonto was no way near Khanyisile.
Nonto loved to take charge and role plays, all those sort of nasty stuff, while khanyisile was gentle and submissive and the king loved that.
so over the months he had missed making love to a woman. he missed being with a woman who allowed him to take charge.
He missed Khanyisile no matter how badly he had tried to deny it.
He may not be inlove with Khanyile but He liked her, so much. He might have even fallen for her the first year of their marriage, its the issue of a child that placed a strain on them.
He held his hand up to knock but decided against it.
he was just gonna walk in, there was no need for him to knock, Khanyi was still his wife and He had the right to be in her chambers so he turned the door k**b hoping that it was unlock.
And as if the Gods were by his side the door was unlocked, He walked in and luckily the lights were on.....
He quietly made his way to her bed and behold the sight that graced him.
In the bed lay Khanyi in a fetal position, white sheets covered only a quarter of her legs, almost her entire body was uncovered, she wore a black lace panty with a silk nighty vest leaving very little to imagination.
Her plump ass was facing him making the lower region of his trouser tighten even more.
"Damn!!!!!" He whispered to himself as he admired her smooth caramel skin.
He quietly climbed into her bed and lay behind her....He admired her beauty even more.
He had always known that Khanyi was an epitome of beauty, sometimes he wonders if he just gives himself a chance to really appreciate her what worse could happen.
His mother doesn't have to know. he will just love khanyi behind close doors because he would be lying if he says he wasn't attracted to her. the girl was just an angel.
He listened as she breathe evenly. he softly squeezed her ass and gentle planted few kisses on the back of her neck.
such movement were enough to cause khanyi to stir just a little.
*
*
*
khanyi turned, disorganised and a bit confused.
her heart was about to leap out of her throat. a bit of her mind wondering who was in her bed.
she was clearly shocked beyond words when she came face to face with her husband.
for a while she was lost for words.
" uhm.....makhosonke....what?" she couldn't even form a coherent sentence
" hi love" the King said in a husky tone.
" what are you doing in here" Khanyi was still clearly confused, the king hasn't been in her chambers for almost a year now so what was He doing in the middle of the night in her bed.
" visiting my wife of'cause, bengik'khumbule." he looked at her lips. his eyes full of nothing but lust.
" you missed me.....really!.... is this a joke. where is your wife" she asked.
" what do you mean, ukephi umfaz' wam', i mean you are right here with me" he answered clearly playing dumb.
" i mean your real wife, Nonto, not me. i am only your wife by name nothing more" she explained
" you are also my real wife Khanyi. and i am sorry i haven't been a husband to you this past few years.
Can we please forget about Nonto and focus on us tonight" he was already nibbling on her left ear.....
Even though she hated it but Khanyi felt tingling sensation at the king's touch.
The more he brushed her soft skin the more she yearned for more contact.
She hadn't been touched by a man for a while and now her body was clearly betraying her.
"Damn i really missed you" the king whispered, his voice sending chills down her spine.
As much as Khanyi wanted to fight this, she couldn't.
She had no energy, so she let her body take control for once.
The king kissed her passionately. the kiss was not forced or rushed but it was clearly full of emotions.
Its like the King was reassuring her somehow.
She kissed back as the kiss advanced into something more. it got more heated.
The king cupped her firm breast and gentle squeezed it.
Khanyi couldn't help but to let out a strangled moan. she was enjoying this.
The king had never held her like this before.
He had never handled her with so much love and care.
Its like some how if He became rough with her, she would break and he didn't want that.
Their eyes final met and the King looked at her like she was the most precious thing in the world and that just melted khanyi's heart.
This was the king she knew the first year of their marriage not the monster he became over the years.
" sthandwa sam.....can i please make love to you all night long" he asked his voice even huskier than before.
Khanyi stared at him for a long while before she reponded.
" i would love that"
That was all the confirmation the king needed.
He made it his mission to make Khanyi feel like the only woman in the world all through the night.

ENTRY SEVEN
i was in the kitchen preparing lunch when Nonto whooshes past me as if this palace were her house instead ours, and she perches herself in my favourite chair on the kitchen table. I wait for Makhosonke who was taking something out of the fridge to say something but he does not. She flicks that white blonde weave to one side in what I know to be a conscious act. So I look. Dangling from her perfect lobes are diamonds set in white gold. They are exquisite, accentuating the length of her neck. They cost more than i have in my bank account. I realize I have held my gaze too long. Her face is one of triumph and Makhosonke does not have the decency to caution her. But then why should he? There's nothing romantic between us, am like one of the maids now. So i do what i am good at, i look at her and faked the most perfect smile ever.
i guess my smile might have irritated her because she furiously exited the kitchen going to the garden while Makhosonke headed to the throne room. i continued preparing the meal with my bleeding heart.

LAMKHIZE
Nonto was irritated beyond imagination, she hated that Khanyisile smiled, she smiled like she's happy right to her soul, like there is no part of her that sadness dwells. She has no mannerisms that show damage of any kind; she's perfection right down to her micro-expressions.
Nonto had noticed the King follow her with His eyes. Even though she didn't want to admit but she'd sell her soul just to be her for one day, to walk in those shoes instead of her own. to be as strong as she was.
If that's envy then she didn't care.
Was it wrong of her to be born so ordinary and then be judged for wanting more?
There was no doubt that she hated her with a huge passion. Her presence buzzed around her like a fly that she could not swat. even though Nonto had designer clothes, lived in a mansion. She had everything yet she was never as brave and as bold as Khanyisile was.
she was not adored by the kingdom as much as they adored Khanyisile, she had the respect of the kingdom.
While Nonto was just tolarated by the people.
Perhaps its that jealousy that made her wanna get rid of khanyi's existence. Every time she saw her she'd let herself hate her more, feeling nothing if she were sad, feeling angry if she were happy. she didn't see those feelings as her problem, her envy. All she did was stand there looking athletic with a smile that could light up the world and Nonto will always find ways and means to wipe that smile of her.

MaTlou was sitting near the gradens drinking tea when lamKhize came out.
She looked troubled.
"i thought i would find you here" she spoke sitting next to her on one of the steel chairs.
" i needed some fresh air, what are you doing here. where is your husband" she asked.
lamkhize: he is in the throne room, and i needed to talk to you.
MaTlou: about what?
lamkhize: am worried mah,
MaTlou: what are you so worried about.
LaMkhize: its been almost a year now since i've been married into this family yet i have nothing to show for it.
the king is starting to ask questions about my inability to fall pregnant.
What if he kicks me out, am scared.
MaTlou: he would do no such thing, i assure you.
and what would you suggest we do then because that traditional healer i took you too told us that you will be with child soon.
LaMKhize: and that was five months back....am still yet to fall pregnant.
what if its that witch that calls herself Lamaseko, what if she has used her witchcraft on me to prevent me from falling pregnant.
MaTlou: yeah.....you could be right yazi.
I haven't i thought of that.
LaMkhize: its her.....that woman is wicked, why is she still in the palace, with all the ill-treatment we give her, i thought she would be gone by now.
MaTlou: i still wonder the same thing. i mean my son hasn't touch her for over a year now yet she still survives....... i thought she would have killed herself or something by now.
sometimes i curse that Oath Khaya made. he was as hot headed as his father and had done everything to leave us with his witch of a wife.
LaMkhize: i will not allow her to break my happiness.
I have a plan.
Matlou: what plan.
LaMkhize: i have a cousin, we are very close.
Her name is Okuhle. what if i bring her here convince her to carry my child.
MaTlou: and how will she do that.
Lamkhize: the King will sleep with her and if she falls pregnant then she will give me her baby and i will raise that baby as my own.
I will make sure she signs all the right of the baby over to me....
MaTlou kept quiet, digesting all that Lamkhize had said.
" you know what....that might work. tell you what: convince your cousin to do this and i will get my son to agree to it.
Let it be as soon as possible before that witch gets wind of this.
Because we both know if she gets to know about it, she will find a way to stop your cousin from falling pregnant" MaTlou said.
LaMkhize: don't worry i will make sure i get my cousin over this coming weekend.
Lets hope the king will agree to this.
MaTlou: don't worry he will agree, he has no choice, he knows that he needs an heir as soon as possible, because if he doesn't have an heir before next year then he will have to step down from the throne.
They continued talking, setting their plan in motion.

ENTRY SIX
LAMASEKO
Life was worse for lamaseko, it felt like she was leaving in a nightmare that she was yet to wake up from.
three months later there was officially a second wife.
The traditional marriage Took place two months back.
She really hoped the uncles were gonna stop this but it looks like the queen-mother got the final say afterall, just like always.
since LaMkhize came into the palace things had moved from bad to worse for Lamaseko.
she was treated like the maid of the palace instead of the queen that she was.
Her husband, the king, hardly acknowledged her presence ever since HE and Lamkhize came back from their honeymoney.
He nolonger visited her chambers. he spent all his time with Lamkhize.
MaTlou and Lamkhize have become the best of friends. they were always gossing about her or lurking in the corners laughing at her.
she tried complaining to the uncles and they had promised to look into the matter.
She told them she wanted to go back home but they refused, they told her that tradition denied her the right of going back home; besides they had made a blood oath to khaya that in the case that he dies, Lamaseko would remain in the palace as the queen until she passes on.
that oath was not to be broken, if it was ever broken then calamity would come into the kingdom, even upon Lamaseko herself.
Guess this was Khaya's way of protecting his wife even from the great beyond.
If he only knew that the blood oath will bring nothing but Havoc in lamaseko's life.
It hurts her so badly to be treated like dirt. even a commoner was treated better than her.
MaTlou had banned the Maids from serving her or run errands for her.
Infact she was told to cook for her co-wife and serve her.
she was no longer allowed to eat at the royal dining area.
and whenever she wanted cosmetics and other stuff she would use the money that her dad gave her every month.
Her father Had always told her that it was her monthly allowance. she didn't see the need of it at first because she didn't need it but now it was clear that without it she would've been walking around smelling like a dead rat.
Sometimes she wanted to tell her father how bad her stay was at the palace but for the sake of peace and fear of the oath, she always kept quiet.
She woke up this morning feeling a bit down but she had to prepare breakfast for her co-wife. she dragged herself to the kitchen luckily it was empty so she wouldn't bump into any servents. she still felt ashamed to be seen by the servents perfoming maids duties.
She took out eggs and bacon from the fridge.
she was about to get started when a sharp pain shot through her forehead. a very terrible headache started.
" my queen, you don't look fine let me help you with that" Nomfundo said just as she entered the kitchen, seeing the condition her queen was in.
" am okay, its just a slight headache" she responded taking out the milk.
" even so please sit down and let me do this, i don't feel right watching you working like a maid, its our job to serve you" Nomfundo said.
" you can't help me...you know if the queen-mother comes in here and sees you helping me she will fire you." she said.
" i don't care. she can fire me if she wants, you are the one who hired me, not her. i was here to serve you. if am not allowed to do that then i will gladly leave." Nomfundo said.
" no! don't say that, i know how much you need this job.
I will not forgive myself if i become the reason for you to loose your job" she brushed her forehead as another pain jab through.
" thats it....you are sitting down and am doing this" Nomfundo said taking everything from her, and not allowing anything for discussion.
She sat as Nomfundo prepared the breakfast.
She was about to be through when Lamkhize waltz in the kitchen in her long legs, in her pink silky gown.
" and then, why are you sitting here doing nothing while this filty maid prepare my food. you want me to eat dirt....is that your plan. you wanna kill me." she yelled taking the milk and pouring it all over her.
Lamaseko jumped clearly caught of guard. her dressed was now drenched in milk.
"I....i was..."
"You were what!, mthakathi ndin, you wanna kill me because of your barrenness" she shouted.
those words shot at Lamaseko stabbing here like a dagger. in anger and hurt she failed to control her actions so she ended up slapping Lamkhize who screamed at the top of her voice as if she had been hit by a car.
the king ran in the kitchen and saw red when he witness his precious jewel crying.
" what's going on here, why is my wife crying" he demanded.
" its.....her" Lamkhize pointed at Lamaseko "this barren wood hit me just because i asked why she allowed her dirty maid to prepare my breakfast" laMkhize cried out.
" you have the audacity to hit my wife, you!" the King spat venom.
He slapped her before she could say any word.
" what gave you the right to put your Barren filthy figers on my wife" he roared slapping her again.
" My king stop she....."
" you!!! be gone......you are a maid here so leave now!" the king shouted at Nomfundo who was not given a chance to finish her sentence.
She quickly ran out the door when she saw the raw anger written all over the king's face.
"and wena, i will teach you a lesson today, you failed to give me a child but you know how to hit my wife.
nyumba" he spoke while hitting her over and over, lamkhize watched with a huge smile of satisfaction on her face.
She laughed while Lamaseko cried in agony.
She screamed for help but no one came to her aid.
She cried until she couldn't anymore.

Later that night Lamaseko went to bed looking like a trainwreck.
After the beating she received she was told to go lock herself up in her chamb3rs. in the evening Nomfundo came in to help her clean her bruises. Nomfundo felt awful for her but couldn't do anything to help.
After Nomfundo left, LaMaseko just Sat on her bed, pain shooting from every angle.
She didn't know from which part the most pain came from.
in her hand she carried an album, a picture of her And Makhosonke came into display. it was a picture from five years ago just after they had gotten married.
she just decided to choose that photo, a most perfect memory of makhosonke and clinged to it.
She choose to dwell on it because in that moment he was the person he should have been, would have been, had it not been for the stress of life and being hell-bent on wanting an heir.
In that snapshot his unwarped personality was something so golden and sacred she wanted to keep it forever. Like an old movie reel that she could play at will; it's the picture of them together on the back lawn of the palace. He was laughing, relaxed after a meeting with the town's councel. He asked her if she wanted a pigy ride and of course she agreed, In moments he had her on his back. He spins like a shot-putter, but he never lets go. The garden turns into a green blur, she's flying- flying until he could spin no more. The memory had no smells or weather, other than a lack of rain.
The garden was in fine detail: the crab apple tree, the sunflower bush, the weeds in the flower beds. But the finest detail was his face, creased with love and her joy- not only for the ride but for being with him, for being with his husband.
*
*
She placed the album back in her drawer and just stared at her bruises.
The spreading purple with yellow blotches were only the surface wound. The real one were within, that feeling of betrayal, that breaking of trust that is so essential to true love.
For what we love, we protect, right?
She knew that the moment he reacted,
Hitting her without hearing her side of the story.
He had literally locked down into his primitive brain, that she doubted if he will ever come back to his senses, or be responsive, and be able to use his higher thoughts.
She wondered if He will ever love her.
maybe after these wounds, the real bruises within, when they have healed, she will seek safety with someone who has never caused her such pain, a person she could love and be loved by, sharing a bright and happy future because it didn't seem like the palace was her future anymore maybe she should stop fearing the Oath and just take a leap of faith.
Life here was worse than hell itself.
INKOSANA: LAMENT FOR THE DEAD
ENTRY FIVE.
KING MAKHOSONKE
After leaving the palace, the king drove to the mall first before driving to Nonto's place.
Nontobeko was surprised to see her boyfriend standing at her doorstep. she wasn't expecting him until 8pm.
" hey babe what are you doing here this early" Nonto said as they shared a hug. she noticed the roses, box of chocolate and bottle of wine he had with him.
" i missed you sthandwa sam, here, this are for you" He handed her the gift.
" wow....such expensive bottle of wine, what's the occasion" she asked as they made their way into the lounge.
" nothing i just wanna spend time with you today, we will order in and just chill" he said.
" mmmmh i like the sound of that" she said.
they indeed cuddled in the couch watching reruns of their favourite shows.
Nonto was glad the king was with her, she enjoyed spending time with him.
Nontobeko was from a rich family, she has always been a wild child.
she dropped out of school and persued her model career.
things were going fine for her until the scandal that she got caught up in that made her loose everything.
the tabloits and media had exposed her tendencies of sleeping with clients for gigs and when such thing came out, companies stopped booking her and her model career crumbled into the grounds.
she was left with nothing, and was struggling financially until the king landed on her laps. its like the gods were blessing her. so when she got the king she held on to him tightly never letting go. she knew he was married but never cared.
she was just happy with the luxury and comfort the king brought in her life.
at 26 she was living large, with a car and expensive apartment that the king provided for her.
as they watch the tv, the king's focus was scattered, so filled with nervous anticipation , he was so excited, even giddy. He couldn't hold a conversation or sit still while his thoughts danced in infinite directions. Yet he had to get through the day in one piece. its been 5 years since makhosonke had been seeing Nonto. He had first saw her on His wedding day and was completely taken by her.
at the reception area he told one of the guards to get her number for him.
after that they started calling each other while the king was on his honeymoon.when he came back from the honeymoon He took Nonto out on a date. Their first date had been cracking sidewalks and watery sunshine that struggled past the clouds. They had made several loops of their block, how many neither of them can recall. On the first few circuits the talk had been shy, almost becoming familiar and then each of them backing away. Another few circuits and they knew more about one another than many members of their own family, their fingers entwined in a loose grip. On the final loop around Makhosonke had pulled Nonto close into a kiss that stopped all her anxious thoughts dead in their tracks. They both knew in that instant they had found their other half and that fate had dealt them a dangerous hand...
later they both spent a night in a five star hotel.
they have been going out since then. the king loved Nontobeko and would do anything for her.
and today, he hoped, would be a perfect day. He could picture it already - holding hands, a tingling feeling spreading throughout his entire body. He would take her for a walk through the park and count the ducks; it seemed the most natural thing in all the world. And she was his special girl.
later that day they ordered dinner at an italian restaurant which was delivered 30 minutes later.
they ate.
after eating they went back to the lounge to watch maybe one or two movies before they can retire to bed.
*
*
*
*
*
after they returned to the lounge Nonto noticed that Makhosonke was all of a suddenly quiet, not like him at all, mister chatter himself. she was used to the long tales, the rambling, the quick wit. she bit her inner lip for just a half second before sitting next to him, flicking her hair in the fading light of the evening.
She knew that There was so much in the king's silence, so much he just won't say. she could see by his expression there's a lot going on in his head, but when she asked he just said he was thinking of how pretty she was. Got to give the man credit, he's smoother than silk. He flashes the smile that's got her tied up tighter than a banker's money, but unlike a vault, isn't claustrophobic at all. she is safe with him, even if he does keep secrets. Loving him doesn't give her the right to know every burden of the kingdom, to rummage though the wreckage of his head. Some burdens are invisible, she knew he carries his share. she slipped her hand into his hand but he never reacted.
she stared at him for a while with a raised eyebrow. He was sitting tense on the couch, his back arched and his eyes on the TV but not really watching.
"love, are you okay?" she squeezed his hand tightly.
"Yeah, fine," he murmured absently, his eyes shifting to the window.
"babe, look at me." I shook him slightly.
"Don't do that." he growled, his eyes changing to black instantly.
"Okay, whats really up with you" she stare lightly at his shaking figure.
at his silence, she was about to speak again but He spoke before she got the chance.
"I love you." He said, There's something in his candour that worries her.
"Why do you love me?” She whispered, her hands tracing the freckles on his arm, connecting them with invisible lines like a dot – to – dot.
“How could I not?” He replied, cupping her cheek so her beautiful eyes met his own. She frowned at his answer and looked away.
he dropped his hand and fiddle with the corner of the couch instead.
"i love the fading sunset behind your eyes, the moonlight that dances through your hair, the sadness nestled in the creases of your palms. I love all of you, not just the parts that make sense, not just the parts that you have shown me. I love the parts of you that I don’t yet understand, the parts that weigh on your shoulders, the parts I only notice when I steal glances at you in the silence. i love all of you, How could I not.” He said truthfully
Nonto was taken aback, this wasn't Makhosonke. He isn't usually direct like this.
"I love you, Nontobeko Mkhize. I love you with everything that I am, and i want to ask you something ." he said
" what is it, you are worrying me" she said.
" believe me its nothing bad"
" then what is it" she asked.
" i know this is not cliche romantic setting, but you and i both know that i hate cliches." he took out a ring with a huge diamond.
" my mom gave me this ring, she was given by my father and she wants to make it a family alum.
its her most precious possession"
He stood up from the couch with Nonto still watching him intensely.
" Nontobeko Mkhize, i have loved you from the very first day i saw you.
you have been with me throughout my journey and with you there was never a day i wasn't happy.
and i will love you to continue making me the happiest man on earth by agreeing to being my wife.
please love, Marry me" he spoke, he was on his knee.
for a while Nonto was dumbstricken, she knew the king Adored her but she never thought it could lead to marriage.
" please say something" the king pleaded upon seeing Nonto's shocked face.
" but my king....what about your wife.
you are married. what will the people say" she spoke.
" you know that i don't love that woman, i married her because tradition forced me to.
tradition my not allow me to divorce her but it can't stop me from marrying another wife.....
besides i know my people will love you just as much as i do" he spoke sencerely.
" this is just.....so unexpected. what about the queen-mother. would she allow you to have another wife, i heard she is against polygamy" she pointed.
" babe my mother is on board, she is the one who asked me to ask you.
she loves you already. besides i need an heir to my throne and since that woman has failed to produce one, i want you to be the one to bear me an heir"
she kept quiet for a while getting the king a bit worried.
he was afraid she was gonna reject him.
" ohk....fine i agree" she said with a wide smile.
" what!" he couldn't believe his ears.
" yes.....yes i will marry you" Nonto screamed happilly.
" wow...really" she nodded " thank you. thank you so much" He swept her off her feet spinning her around in the air.
he was beyond happy.
" i cannot wait to call you my wife" he spoke finally placing her on the couch.
" and i cannot wait to be your wife" Nonto answered....they shared a long passionate kiss.
later they retired to bed; Nonto couldn't help but stare at the big stone on her middle finger.
it felt surreal.
in her arms, King Makhosonke felt like he was right at home and he couldn't be happier.
*
*
when they woke up the next morning they were just in their own world.
The king couldn't keep his eyes from hers.
Nonto was full of joy when she woke up, The adoring eyes of her fiancé never left her face, which flushed with good humour and liveliness. His attentive gaze followed her every footstep, the ever-changing shape of her plump lustrous lips, and every single movement of her limbs. All he could think to himself was that he would never meet or even see anyone so beautiful – and not just traditionally beautiful, but beautiful through her heart and through her soul. She glowed brighter than any star in the sky, than any woman in the world.
