To some brides, authenticity is one of the most important elements of their wedding day.
I love working with authentic brides because:
โ†’ they love non-traditional make-up looks
โ†’ they usually create an unforgettable vibe
โ†’ they love to add a little bit of *spice* to their day by adding in little unique surprises (like dinosaur slippers).
I love playing a part in showcasing that authentic spirit through make-up. Thank you for trusting me with your beautiful face Elsie.

"I don't want to walk down the aisle looking like a different person."

That was an absolute non-negotiable request I got from my bride, Wilmie.

She had many experiences as part of other bridal parties where her make-up turned out looking heavy and caked-on, and she didn't want that for her wedding day.

Instead, she wanted to have natural-looking skin and soft creativity.

She needed a make-up artist that could listen to what she wanted and bring to life the vision she had in her mind.

I knew the drill because I had worked with many similar brides before. I could create a look for her that checked all her boxes.

It's safe to say Wilmie look freaking AMAZING on her wedding day!

What look do you dream of for your wedding day?

So you really don't want that cakey makeup on your wedding day.
But you're not completely sure how to convey the vision you have for your makeup to a makeup artist.
If you are being honest you're a bit uneasy because if s/he misunderstands you think that you may end up looking like a totally different person walking down the aisle.
I completely understand that because most of the brides I work with have the exact same thought.
So, to help you make sure that you are booking a makeup artist that will make you feel heard, incredibly beautiful but not at the expense of feeling comfortable in your skin, I'll share four free tips that will help you do that.
Why should you listen to me you might ask? I'll tell you why.
1. I'm a professional makeup artist and I've been making brides feel incredibly beautiful and more importantly like their authentic selves when walking down the aisle for 6 years now.
So let's get into the four tips you need to book a makeup artist that will listen to what you want and be able to execute your vision.
1. Look for diversity in their portfolio or Instagram: you want someone that showcases creativity, different looks and techniques. If a makeup artist has more than one look on their pages you know they are adaptable and will be able to do anything you throw at them
2. Jump on a Zoom call with them: this way you get to know the MUA's personality. You can also ask any questions you have before committing to anything.
3.Remember it's your wedding and you are allowed to be direct when explaining what you want. You could use phrases like:
โ†’ I don't want to look like a different person
โ†’ I don't want caked-on makeup
โ†’ I DO want a lighter application
โ†’ I want a soft and flowy look
โ†’ I want glass skin
โ†’ I want flawless skin
4. Have a lot of example pictures. Make sure you have pictures of what you like and what you do not like. This very little room for any misunderstandings.

1. Have example pictures of what you like and what you don't like. The more we know, the better we will understand

2. Be direct. We won't take offence if you tell us exactly what you want and don't want. We welcome it.

3. Describe as much as you can: "I want sheer foundation", "I want full coverage foundation", "I don't like heavy eyeliner", "I love winged liner". "I prefer matte colours", "I love shimmers and mattes" etc

4. Avoid telling us to do what we think will look best. Yes, we are trained to make you look the best we can for photo's etc, and we will most definitely do exactly that with the specifications that you've given us. You are the one that has to feel incredibly beautiful and we are the ones that need to execute YOUR vision.

Why I love doing peoples makeup

โ†’ Over the years you have secretly been forming your ideas and thoughts about beauty.
You believe that beauty is something that can't be completely defined because it has a different meaning to each individual
โ™ฅ๏ธ You believe that it something deeper than what you see on the outside.
You don't believe that your beauty is defined by the makeup you wear.
You feel safe in your definition.
You see meaning in your definition.
But sometimes. Only when you are faced with the deepest part of yourself.
๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผ You wonder if you really believe your definition or if you are just telling yourself that because you know it's what you should believe.
And if you don't really believe your definition, does that mean that it's ok to wear makeup and let it make you feel beautiful?
And if you do wear makeup and let it make you feel beautiful, are you being your authentic self?
This brings you to the question, can wearing makeup and authenticity co-exist
YES. It can.โœ…
In my opinion, it's not wearing makeup that's the problem.
It's the reason behind wearing makeup that CAN BE a problem.
So yes, it should not be the mask you hide behind.
(Dealing with your inner being is a far more effective way of feeling content with yourself.)๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป
But it also doesn't mean that if you do wear makeup that you're unhappy with yourself or that you're hiding behind a mask.
๐Ÿ’ฏ Makeup is something that should enhance your inner spirit and you should feel comfortable, and 100% yourself when wearing it.
So you need to find what works for you and wear it proudly.
Because you are getting an opportunity to show the world a piece of who you are on the inside translated to the outside.
And that is just such an empowering feeling.
โ†’ When I get to listen to what clients want and then do their makeup. I get to empower them in this way.๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿฝ
This is the reason why I love to do other people's makeup

๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผ Do you want to know the best advice I got before my wedding day?
It was this:
People won't know how it's supposed to be, only you know how it's supposed to be.
The only thing people will remember is the vibe and if they had a good time.
So don't freak out over the little things.๐Ÿ™ˆ
( believe me, I had plenty of options to freak out over, but I chose not to)
๐Ÿค“ This piece of advice ensured that I had the most wonderful, vibey, stress-free wedding I could have only hoped for.
Getting ready with my bridesmaids was one of the highlights of my day.๐Ÿงจ

โ–ซ๏ธ There was no stress.
โ–ซ๏ธ Loads of laughter
โ–ซ๏ธ Lots of chilled yet excited vibes
โžก๏ธ But the most important part... I was getting married to my forever partner.
I think I almost sprinted down the aisle.๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ
Not just because I was ready to celebrate our love with the people closest to us.
But because it was a significant day that would start the rest of our marriage and life together.
๐Ÿ‘ฐ๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿคต๐Ÿฝ
It was probably the most meaningful and memorable day of my life.
That is why now when I go out to do bridal makeup. I make sure that my brides have what I had.
A beautiful, meaningful, chilled yet excited 'getting ready' day.
Because these are the memories they will cherish forever.
