I would like to share a story.

One of the greatest privileges of working behind a salon chair is that you don’t just style hair—you get to learn from people who have walked paths you haven’t yet travelled.

A former teacher and deputy principal shared these wise words with me at exactly the right time.

As parents, we spend so much of our lives trying to protect our children from hardship, disappointment, failure, and heartbreak. But what does that teach them?

If we remove every obstacle, we may also remove the opportunity to build resilience.

Disappointment teaches patience.
Failure teaches perseverance.
Heartbreak teaches compassion.
Challenges teach courage.
And overcoming difficult seasons gives our children confidence that they are stronger than they ever imagined.

Our role isn’t to make sure they never fall—it’s to be there when they do, helping them get back up with love, wisdom, and faith.

Sometimes the greatest gift we can give our children isn’t an easier path, but the confidence that they can walk through difficult ones.

Those words stayed with me, and I hope they encourage another parent today. 🤍
