Bugatti Chiron alters universe

In the end, Bugatti didn’t even need to make it a hybrid. Nope, the new Chiron, unveiled in Geneva, comes packing a development of the Veyron’s 8.0-litre, quad-turbo W16. Total power now sits at a heady 1103kW.

There’s also 1600Nm of torque, fed through a strengthened seven-speed twin-clutcher to all four wheels for some startling statistics.

0-100kph takes less than 2.5 seconds, 0-200kph is dispatched in less than 6.5s, while 0-300kph takes less than 13.6s. Top speed? It’s been limited - limited - to 420kph.

Oh, and how’s this for interest: Bugatti boss Wolfgang Dürheimer told TopGear.com that one individual has already ordered six Chirons, and around 170 of the 500 models planned for production have already had deposits taken.

“This will be remarkably faster than the Veyron,” he told us. Better believe it…

Here we have a Rolls Royce Wraith that looks like it’s been involved in some kind of unfortunate smelting incident. It hasn’t though. Mansory assures us it’s quite on purpose.

It’s called the ‘Palm 999 Edition’, and Mansory says it will build only nine for a so far undisclosed sum of money. The body kit is carbon fibre and the gold wheels are 21s. Only the badges have been refinished in ‘pure gold’, but Mansory says it can and will gold plate anything with a metallic surface. The interior, we’re told, is similarly appointed.

The Wraith’s 6.6-litre V12 engine hasn’t gone unaltered, either. Power is up from 465kW to 544kW, cutting the 0-100kph time by a fifth of a second to 4.4seconds. Mansory’s done away with the 250lph limiter, too, for a 300kph top-end.

Tasteful upgrade or gaudy monstrosity? We’ll let you argue it out in the comments.
