HOW TO BEST CARE FOR YOUR TAPE-IN HAIR EXTENSIONS

When you want to enjoy fuller, longer, easier-to-style hair, tape-in hair extensions are a great long-term solution. Their unique bond allows them to lie flat against your head, making them barely noticeable against you natural hair. The bond and the hair, itself, makes these extensions look, feel, and function just like your natural hair.
If you want to make sure your extensions last as long as possible, you’ll need to follow specific care guidelines when wearing them. Whether you want to advise your clients or you need some advice for your own hair, we’ve put together a list of the most important care tips for your tape-in hair extensions.
For the most part, you can treat your extensions like normal hair. So these tips are not only to preserve your extensions, but to benefit your natural hair as well.
Note: These tips are specifically for tape-in hair extensions made from 100% Remy human hair. If you have synthetic hair extensions, you may need to follow a different regimen.

1. USING THE RIGHT PRODUCTS ON YOUR HAIR

When wearing hair extensions, you’re going to have to rely on some love and maintenance to keep them shiny and smooth. When you’re buying products, make sure they are alcohol free to avoid unnecessary damage.

2. BRUSHING YOUR TAPE-IN HAIR EXTENSIONS

You brush your natural hair every day to avoid tangles, distribute the natural oils from your scalp, and manage frizz. These same benefits apply to your hair extensions as well. Be patient and gentle as you’re working your way through the hair—always starting from the bottom.

3. WASHING YOUR HAIR AND EXTENSIONS

It’s important to take special care when washing your hair extension. Look for shampoos and conditioners that are sulphate free and, preferably, specially-formulated for hair extensions. When actually washing, be sure to apply at the root and gently rub down to the rest of your hair. You don’t need to reach the ends with shampoo.

4. USING HOT STYLING TOOLS

Just like overuse of hot styling tools can severely damage your natural hair, it can severely damage your hair extensions. That doesn’t mean you can’t use them.
