decisions decides your destiny
Umzinto Clinic Team and Social Services held an impactful awareness event on the 1st of August 2025at Umzinto Community Hall for Grade 12 learners from Sihle High, Malangeni Secondary, Tholisu High and Roseville High School. This initiative was prompted by the concerning prevelance of teenage pregnancies and high tertiary dropout rates amongst first year students, often attributed to challenges with adapting to social life and academic demands.
The learners had a great opportunity to gain valuable insights on matters relating to teenage pregnancy, mental health, substance abuse, prevention of crime and life skills. Former leaners of Umzinto and Sihle High School (Mrs Sthe Madida & Mr Skhumbuzo Qolo) now successful graduates from the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal (UKZN) and Durban University of Technology (DUT) shared inspiring massages with the students. They emphasized the importance of exploring career options, achieving outstanding matric results and highlighted how academic achievements play a critical role in securing admissions to tertiary institution.
The awareness event was supported by Department of Education, Social Development, Correctional Services, SAPS and Isibani Health. The grades 12's left the event feeling mentally refreshed, emotionally uplifted, inspired and more confident to face the the challenges of the outside world.
