New on the blog — Disinfection vs. Sterilization 🧼🔥

These terms are often used interchangeably in the nail industry… but they are NOT the same — and understanding the difference is essential for safety, professionalism, and client trust.

Here’s the breakdown 👇

🧼 Disinfection

Kills most harmful microorganisms using chemical solutions
✔ Industry standard for nail services
✔ Only effective when tools are properly cleaned first

🔥 Sterilization

Eliminates all microbial life (including spores)
✔ Requires an autoclave (pressure + precise temperature)
✔ Used in medical/dental environments

⚠️ The misconception

Not all “sterilizing” devices actually sterilize.
Dry heat units, UV boxes, and bead sterilizers often don’t meet true sterilization standards in salon settings.

🚫 Let’s talk about pouches…

After cleaning + disinfection + drying:
• Even tiny moisture can get sealed inside
• Paper pouches are NOT airtight or moisture-proof
• You create a trapped micro-environment

➡️ Trapped moisture = microbial survival risk

Ironically, this can make storage worse, not better.
And even if you’re “just using them for storage”…

👀 Intent doesn’t matter — interpretation does

Pouched tools can be seen as a claim of sterilization, which may lead to questions about autoclaves, logs, and testing.

Clean → Disinfect → Dry → Store in a clean, breathable container
