A little humour to start the day

Doing hair is so much more mentally demanding than people realise.

Every client who sits in my chair is completely different. Before I even mix a formula, my mind is already working through a hundred things at once. What's their hair history? Is there old colour? Is the hair healthy enough? What is the porosity like? How will the hair lift? What underlying pigments will be exposed? Can their inspiration photo realistically be achieved today? How do I get the best result while protecting the integrity of their hair?

Then comes the formulation itself. Choosing the wrong developer, leaving a product on too long, underestimating previous colour, or missing one small detail can completely change the outcome. Every decision matters. It's problem-solving, chemistry, timing, and creativity happening simultaneously.

Throughout the service, I'm constantly assessing and reassessing. Is the hair lifting evenly? Does the formula need adjusting? Is the hair showing signs of stress? Do I need to change the plan? Hair doesn't always follow a script, so you have to think on your feet and make decisions in real time.

People see the before and after photos, but they don't always see the mental load behind them. Hairdressers carry the responsibility of managing expectations, protecting the health of the hair, creating beautiful results, and making dozens of technical decisions throughout the appointment.

It's incredibly rewarding, but it can also be mentally draining because every head of hair is a new puzzle, and every puzzle deserves your full attention. 🤍
