Professional cosmetics and drugstore cosmetics differ in terms of the percentage of active compounds, natural extracts, proteins, vitamins, and other elements that contribute to healthier and more attractive hair.

Salon cosmetics are superior due to the high-quality substances they contain, but also due to the ingredients they do not.
Drugstore products contain harmful substances such as SLS/SLES sulfates, silicones, parabens and sodium chloride, which can cause irritation, skin drying, hair follicle damage, and hair loss.

Silicones are present in many drugstore conditioners and masks.
Parabens,particularly in drugstore shampoos, can cause allergic reactions, irritation, and rashes, and are also suspected to have estrogenic activity.

Sodium chloride is not harmful to people or the environment, but it can ruin your color and hair.

To recognize a professional product, look at the ingredients on the back of the product.

Manufacturers are not required to state the percentage content of individual ingredients, but the individual ingredients are sorted according to the amount contained, in descending order.

In conclusion - professional products use higher quality ingredients and have a more concentrated formula than drugstore products. Natural oils and fruit extracts are proven to have a beneficial effect on the health and vitality of the hair, while drugstore cosmetics contain only a fraction of high-quality ingredients.

The question then arises - will this small amount have any effect at all?

The Anwer - Over the long run yes

More often than not a client sits in a stylist chair with an inspiration photo, and we as stylists strive to the best of our abilities to achieve the desired look.
Chances are that we won't replicate that exact photo to the T.

Some photos are edited to enhance the colours for a more aesthetically pleasing look or just to fit with the branding of the salon. Other photos are edited in such a way that they completely change the hair colour.

Estemed hairstylist made a great example of this by posting side by side photos of pre- and post edited photos.

So my humble request to clients is to have realistic expectations when coming to get your hair done at the salon.

We may not be photocopiers, but we can sprinkle a little magic here and there to get you as close to your inspo pic as possible!🪄✨️
