Hydrating your nails
Are you staying hydrated?! In addition to keeping your body hydrated, give your poor nails a chance by using your favourite conditioning oil and make sure it will pe*****te the nail and lubricate the nail cells. Keeping them oiled will minimize the damage and hopefully keep you from having painful breaks. My favourite is coconut oil. Coconut oil is used in many natural beauty products, and for good reason: It's naturally antibacterial and antifungal, coconut oil for skin is an excellent moisturizer. Happy hydrating!

How to have HAPPY NAILS from home to salon
As a Nail technician I have an obligation to educate my clients on how to take care of their nails at home. Too many clients are their own worst enemies when it comes to nail health, pushing their new gel-polish manicures too far among the rigors of everyday life. When a client starts picking at them she can really end up injuring her nail plate. The health of her own nail bed is her responsibility too. She needs to watch herself around chemicals similar to acetone. Simple isopropyl solutions used for everyday cleaning can start to break down gel-polish. She should NEVER pick at her nails. This pulls the nail plate keratin just as when a nail tech scrapes and pulls too hard during removal. My greatest pet-peeve of manicure-abusive clients are the ones who remove their gel polish on their own or worse rip off their tips. Both lead to severe “ruining of nails” which is not the fault of gel polish or tips at all but rather the clients. These should be removed by a nail technician. Best part is I don’t charge for soak offs.

Letting nails breathe: Debunking nail myths
Nails don’t actually breathe. The truth is, our nails receive oxygen through our bloodstream, not the air. No external sources provide oxygen or other nutrients to help their growth. Nail products such as strengtheners and hardeners contain vitamins, like vitamin E, that work as antioxidants to protect the keratin in our nails from harsh chemicals, such as soaps and detergents. The products aren’t providing nutritional value, but they do help to prevent breaks. The truth is, no damage should happen to your nails regardless of how you cover them, whether with traditional polish, gel-polish, gels, or acrylics. The danger comes when the nails are filed improperly, and this is something I refuse to do. I prep your nails to remove the gel polish, but never to the point of damaging the integrity of the natural nail.
