Being in the gospel music industry for a long time, and being a musical trainer and choir director for different choirs has given me the knowledge and experience on how to deal with matters relating to music and choir improvement. And during this whole period, I've noticed that in almost all the choirs I've been to, there are common mistakes that exist, especially during performances. In this writeup, I point out the common mistakes that choirs make during performances. Once you know them, you will know how to work around them and improve your choir.

Common mistakes made by choirs during performances can include:

1. Intonation Issues: Choir members singing out of tune or not staying in pitch with each other.

2. Rhythm and Timing Problems: Choir members not staying together rhythmically or coming in at the wrong time.

3. Balance and Dynamics: Imbalances in sound between different sections of the choir, or overall dynamics that are too loud or too soft.

Today, I received a phone call from an upcoming gospel musician, and he asked me a very important question. He said, "Ba Titus, I know that working with Ba Davies Mulaya as a gospel music celebrity has taught you a lot about how one can become a celebrity, especially here in Zambia. Would you kindly share with me a few insights that has made your friend, ba Davies, to be a celebrity?" At that point, I realized that there are other people who are in the same shoes as this young man, wondering how they can break through the Zambian gospel music industry, and later become celebrities. So, I decided to share a few points, in case someone out there is wondering how to make it in the Zambian gospel music industry.

By the way, it is not a sin to be a celebrity. Jesus Christ, In His time on earth, was a celebrity. It's a status everyone would be happy to be associated with. However, it has it's own challenges, but I don't want to talk about those challenges today.

So, one may ask, "Who is a celebrity?" A celebrity is a well-known person who has gained fame and popularity, usually as a result of their talent, work in the entertainment industry, or public persona. Celebrities can include actors, musicians, athletes, social media influencers, and other individuals who have a large following and are widely recognized by the public.

Becoming a gospel music celebrity in Zambia, like in any other country, requires talent, hard work, dedication, and perseverance. Here are some steps you can take to become a gospel music celebrity in Zambia:

1. Develop your musical talent: Start by developing your musical skills and talents. Take singing lessons, learn to play at least one musical instrument if possible, and practice regularly to improve your skills.

There have been very few choirs, especially in Zambia, who have consistently maintained high standards over the years. Most of them come on the scene, perform well, just for a short period of time, then, you no longer hear about them.

But today, I want us to talk about some key factors that help the choir to consistently maintain high standards of performance. The following are the key factors:

1. Regular rehearsals: The choir should schedule regular rehearsals to practice and improve their performance. Consistent practice is essential for maintaining high standards.

2. Set clear goals: The choir should establish clear goals for their performances and work towards achieving them. This will help keep everyone motivated and focused on their performance.

COMMON TEMPTATIONS FOR GOSPEL MUSICIANS

In the bible, we read that after Jesus got baptized, the Spirit of God led Him in the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. Notice that Jesus, the Messiah, had to face temptations. This was not the only time he faced temptations. Throughout His life while doing His ministry, he faced a lot of temptations. The difference was in the way He handled those temptations.

So, we can safely conclude that it is not a sin to face temptations. Actually, it's part of life to face temptations. The secret therein lies in how to handle and overcome the temptations we face.

So, like Jesus Christ, and like any other person, gospel musicians also face a lot of temptations. Sometimes, they may not even realize that they have fallen prey to certain temptations. It is for this reason that I have decided to do a writeup on some of the temptations gospel musicians face. This is not to promote the temptations, but to know them so that we avoid them and find a way to overcome them. The common temptations I have listed are according to my experiences I've encountered, while others I've seen, heard, and learned from others. Some common temptations for gospel musicians may include:

1. Ego and Pride: Gospel musicians may be tempted to become prideful or boastful about their musical abilities, accomplishments, or recognition within the industry.

2. Materialism: Gospel musicians may be tempted by the allure of fame, wealth, and material possessions that can come with being successful in the music industry.

It is important to remember that everyone makes mistakes and that we are all imperfect beings. In stead of being quick to judge others in your songs, try to extend grace and understanding, and offer support and guidance to help them grow and improve. Remember that we are all on a journey of faith and growth, and it is important to show love and understanding towards others, just as we would want others to do for us.

Now, there are dangers in singing judgemental songs about other people's mistakes, and these include the following:

1. Hypocrisy: Singing judgemental songs about other people's mistakes can come across as hypocritical, as gospel musicians are supposed to promote forgiveness and understanding rather than judgement and condemnation.

So, today, I want to address the issue of recording, as a co-producer, and I want to answer the questions, How do you determine if a choir is ready for recording? What are the key factors to consider?

We have seen on many occasions, where a choir performs very well, and make a lot of positive impact, and where everyone appreciates the choir. But after a certain period, the choir no longer performs well, and it appears as if it goes into oblivion. Most people start wondering what might have gone wrong.

I want to answer the question, How do you revamp the choir whose standards have gone below par? The following are the steps to take:

The vision of the group is mostly driven by the choir director, and probably a few individuals. Because of that, most choirs are disjointed, disorganized, and seem to move without vision, without unity of purpose. In this writeup, I want us to address the question, How can a choir achieve unity of purpose?

A choir can achieve unity of purpose by:

1. Establishing a Shared Vision: The choir should have a common goal and vision that everyone is working towards. This could include goals related to musical excellence, ministry outreach, financial growth, or personal growth.
