Night changes everything.

After 9PM, I stop pretending I’m unaffected.
You don’t touch me when you arrive.
You never do.
You just stand close enough to remind me that you could.

“You look calm,” you say.
I smile.

Calm is easy.
Control is the hard part.
The room feels smaller with you in it. Or maybe I’m just more aware of myself,my breath, my thoughts, the way my body remembers you before my mind catches up.
I turn to face you. Slowly.
Not because I’m nervous.
Because I want you to feel every second of the wait.
Your eyes drop. Just briefly.
I notice.
I always notice.

“Stay,” I say.
It’s not a request.
And you do.
