What is Cervical Cancer Screening?

Cervical cancer screening involves your healhcare provider checking the mouth of the womb for cancer sometimes using a camera then discussing the results with you. A woman on ART is 5 times more at risk of getting cervical cancer if you are HIV positive. Screening for Cervical cancer helps to know the problem early so that it can be treated faster and that will lead to the improvement of your health including maintaining your ability to have children. Benefits of Having undetected Viral Load

"Do you Know that having a a supressed Viral Load has a major prevention benefit? People with HIV who take HIV medicine as prescribed and get and keep an undetectable viral load will not transmit HIV to their HIV-negative partners through s*x. This is sometimes called treatment as prevention or undetectable = untransmutable (U=U).
β€’ It reduces the risk of HIV transmission to the child during pregnancy, labor, and delivery.
β€’ It substantially decreases the risk of transmitting HIV to your baby through breastfeeding to less than 1%. However, the risk is not zero.
β€’ It may reduce HIV transmission risk for people who inject drugs.

Elimination of Mother To Child Transmission (eMTCT)

Are you pregnant and living with HIV? A pregnant woman can pass on HIV infection to her unborn baby.
To prevent this, a pregnant woman needs to take her ARV's correctly and consitently throughout pregnancy and breastfeeding.
The newborn baby should be given ARV's to prevent HIV immediately after birth. Mothers,
take your babies to the health care facilities for HIV testing and monitoring until they are 2 years old.
