COST OF REARING KIENYEJI IMPROVED CHICKEN IN KENYA.

Below is the cost estimate for raising 100 improved kienyeji chicks upto the time they start laying eggs,mostly at 4-5 months of age.
Note that the calculations are based on the current market prices which may vary with time and locality. The estimates are broadly based on the major expenses and may not include other unpredictable costs.We assuame you have the structure and equipments ready.

STEP 1
Purchase of chicks. Keystone Poultry farm sells 1 day old improved kienyeji chicks(kuroilers,rainbows)vaccinated against mareks at 90sh each.Totalling to 9000sh.All ages available

STEP 2 (Feeding)
The first three weeks give about 20-30g per bird per day.Amounting to 3-4kg for the 100 chicks.From the 3rd week upto two months each bird consumes abut 50-60Each bag of chick mash amounting to 5-6kg of chick mash for the 100 birds
goes for 2600sh.

NOTE,the first one weeks of age chicks don't consume alot so you can get away with 10-20g of chick mash per day

From the 8th week upto the 19th week,the birds should now feed on growers mash.About 80-90g per bird per day.Totalling to 8-9kg per day for 100 birds.

Layers mash should be introduced once 5% of the birds have started laying.By the 20th week the birds should have started laying.Give 120-130g of layers mash amounting to 12-13kg for the 100 birds per day
Note,change of feeds from chick to growers to layes mash should be done gradually.

STEP 3(vaccines, vitamins,deworming)
Gumboro first and second dose each at 400sh,totalling to 800sh

Newcastle first and second doses each at 350sh.totalling to 700sh

Fowl pox vaccine at 580sh each.This is administered through wing web stab and it might cost since you will need a vets assistance at first.

Fowl typhoid vaccine at 500sh.Its administered through intermuscular injection. You will need a vets' assistance at first.
Dewormers go for 300sh each.

Its important to note that Newcastle and deworming should be done after every three

STEP 4(miscellaneous)
This inludes multivitamins,antibiotics,disinfectants sawdust,labour,transport costs or any additional costs.Set aside 6000sh for all this.
