Ever felt so worthless, and insignificant. We discribed as earthen vessels and not golden, silver or brazen. Who values the dust really, but still in our being mere earthen vessels we are to still bring out some power of excellence. And that not of ourselves but of God.

How excellent did you discharge your duties this past week, and in all that was God seen. Blessed Sabbath 😊

'When a child loses his parent, they are called an orphan. When a spouse loses her or his partner, they are called a widow or widower. When parents lose their child, there isn’t a word to describe them.' Ronald Reagan 15 October 1988.

Did you know, today's Pregnancy and infant loss awareness day. The experience is never the same. But we need to trust the father in all seasons 😊

Day 9 of the Reclaiming your crown series

Now if I really wanna have natural hair but currently have relaxed hair what do I do?

Well there are basically two ways:
*either you just cut all the relaxed hair off at once and start afresh nurturing your new strands which is popularly known as the ‘big chop’ . If you’re courageous enough sure you can do that and watch it grow from scratch.
* or you go through a “transition”. This is where you stop relaxing, trim the hair gradually, nurturing two hair types until all the relaxed ends are gone and you are left with growth which is your natural hair.
The two methods both work and depend on what really works for you. Some may not have the courage to rock a bald head, while transitioning also has its downside of having to deal with two hair textures at the same time, but well the choice is yours.

Day 8 of the Reclaiming your crown series

SHRINKAGE

WHAT DOES NATURAL HAIR SHRINKAGE MEAN?
• Natural hair shrinkage means your hair has shrunk in its appearance. It is well known that black hair in its natural state can shrink up to 80 percent of its actual length.
• However, natural hair shrinkage is not just about appearance. Lots of hair shrinkage means you have got some healthy hair on your head!
• Embrace shrinkage….variety of styling

Day 7 of the Reclaiming your crown series

And then 4c hair aka hard mashona type

4c hair looks similar to 4b hair type only it is more tightly coiled and has less definition. In its raw state (no products added and freshly washed) it does not have a defined curl pattern. Coils have to be defined by either twisting, braiding, or shingling through the strands. The hair strands in this type do not clump easily. The only way of doing so is by applying some styling technique. Many 4c naturals have shrinkage up to 70% or more. So while your hair may be 10 inches long it may appear like you only have 3 inches of hair if you do not stretch your hair out. It ranges from soft, fine thin to coarse and densely packed hair strands. It is the most fragile hair type, so if you desire to grow your hair long protective styles like twists, braids, or buns should be your go to style choice. These styles do not require daily manipulation (combing/brushing) giving hair less chances to break off. You can then wear your hair out for a couple of days in a low manipulation style (puffs, roller sets, twist outs) and then repeat the cycle for a balanced routine. Due to the high breakage rate of this type, it should be protected when sleeping with a satin or silk cap/bonnet.

• It’s quite common for us to have more than one texture in our hair. Your edges may be 4b while the majority of your hair is 4a type. Or you may have 4a hair with some 3c strands for example. Remember no two heads of hair are alike. Hair type systems are good for learning about your hair or what could potentially be best for it, but they are by no means an absolute standard. Use it as guidance and always go by what you know works best for your hair.

Day 6 of the Reclaiming your crown series

Tell me about 4b hair

4b hair has a “z” shape pattern, do not have a clearly defined curl pattern and has a fluffier cottony appearance. Due to the bends and curves in the hair strand it is highly susceptible to dryness and breakage. It usually feels wiry when you touch it and is tightly coiled. The 4B type is very diverse in texture and density. It ranges from a fine texture and scarce density to a course texture and densely packed hair strands. This hair type shrinks up to 70% so without stretching out the hair it will appear shorter than it actually is. Naturals with this hair type will benefit from protective (buns, twists, braids) and should stay away from manipulation styles such as roller sets, ponytail puffs, twist outs to protect the hair from damage. A lot of moisture, gentle cleansers and frequent deep conditioning will be helpful for naturals with 4b hair. When drying the hair it is best to use microfiber or a t-shirt to dry it so as to avoid tension on the hair strands.

Tired of the same styles, how about some fun ideas to spice up the look on your mane! Do share pics if you happen to try any of the styles shown. Life is too short to have boring hairstyles!

4a hair is easy to identify since it has a defined curl pattern almost like a “s” shape when stretched. The hair forms a clearly defined curl pattern with spirals that have a circumference close to that of a regular crotchet needle. This hair type has two textures, fine or wiry. It also has very few cuticle layers than the other hair types thus breaking easily due to its poor natural protection. Although it is very fragile, it has a very high density which makes it appear darker. Generally speaking it retains moisture fairly well, but as with most curly hair types can still be prone to dryness. However, its moisture retaining capacity is much higher than that of the other type 4’s. Being that this hair type has a naturally defined curl pattern wash n’ go styles may be a great option as it can be easily achieved with the right product and technique. Taking care of this hair is very important. Gentle sulfate free shampoos, conditioners and rich creamy products or butters for the hair to be moisturized well.
